PD-L1, a protein found in normal cells, can also hide cancer cells from the immune system. This makes an assault on cancer nearly impossible. Dana-Farber identified the PD-L1 pathway and showed how to block this protein – allowing the immune system to see the tumor and attack it. With this giant step forward in immunotherapy, patients survive longer. This video plays on the Dana-Farber website. It showcases Dr. Gordon Freeman, the researcher behind the discovery, and three of the patients whose lives have been saved by this revolutionary treatment.
